After losing to Japan and changing coaches, Germany defeats USA 3-1 in Nagelsmann debut

Under new head coach Julian Nagelsmann

The German national soccer team pulled off an upset over the United States.

The Germans defeated the United States 3-1 in a friendly at Pratt & Whitney Stadium in East Hartford, Connecticut, on Friday.

It was a thrilling win for Nagelsmann on his debut.

Nagelsmann took over for Hanji Flick, who was sacked in September after a 1-4 shock loss to Japan in

Anbang, and this was his first game in charge of the German national team.

The Germans, who had lost three straight A matches prior to the Japan defeat – 0-1 to Poland and 0-2 to

Colombia – rebounded with a 2-1 win over France and a 2-1 victory over the United States under Rudy Koehler.

Against the United States

Germany conceded a goal in the 27th minute through Christian Pulisic from mid-range.

However, Germany equalized in the 39th minute when Ilkay Kwon-Doan slotted home a ball that the

opposing goalkeeper missed, and Niklas Fühlkrug scored the winner 13 minutes into the second half after

a pass through the middle of the U.S. defense.

Jermall Moussaouialla scored the winner 16 minutes into the second half to seal the 3-1 victory.

Nagelsmann, who has previously managed clubs such as TSG Hoffenheim, RB Leipzig, and Bayern Munich

(all in Germany), was delighted with the win in his first match in charge of the national team. 19가이드03
