National soccer team striker Cho Kyu-sung (Mittwillan) had his worst day in the Danish Superliga since joining the program, as he missed a penalty kick (PK) and picked up his first yellow card.
Cho Kyu-sung started up front against Vejle in the fourth round of the 2023-2023 regular season at Vejle Stadium in Denmark on Wednesday afternoon (KST), but after conceding a PK and constantly getting into nervous battles with opposing defenders, he was replaced by Sori Kaba in the ninth minute of the second half. He ended his goal drought at three games since the start of the regular season.
Cho Kyu-sung formed an attacking trio with Aral Simsir and Franculinho Gludaju. From the outset, he fueled the attack with his trademark shrewd off-the-ball movement. Seven minutes after the kickoff, he earned a PK on a breakaway. After receiving a pass from Franculinho, he drove down the left side of the penalty arc and was tripped up by a defender as he attempted to shoot. The referee marked the PK spot. Cho Kyu-sung tried to make up for the loss with more forward pressure and movement, but was cautioned once.
In particular, he constantly collided with the opposing final defender, Raul Aventosa. Alventosa was aggressive in both aerial and ground battles in an attempt to control Mitwylan’s key goal scorer, Cho Kyu-sung. After Cho’s PK miss in the first half, Mittwylan gave up two crucial shots to German Onuka on the counterattack. However, an offside call saved the day.
After a scoreless first half, the hosts opened the scoring in the fifth minute of the second half. Simsir split the opposition defense on the left side of the penalty area with a right-footed chip shot following some exquisite individual tactics. With Cho Kyu-sung off the field, Mitwillan added a second goal in the 14th minute through Franculinho. He beat the defense on the right side of the penalty box with a quick run and finished with a right-footed shot.
There was also a late scare. In the 33rd minute, the video assistant referee (VAR) showed that Mitwylan defender Pablo Ortiz blocked a crucial attacking move with his arm outside the penalty box. The referee showed a red card. Five minutes later, Mittwylan pulled 안전놀이터 a goal back. Onuka rattled the net with a left-footed strike from a header by the attacking Albentosa.
However, Mitwylan did not concede any more goals. Despite being outnumbered and shaken by conceding a goal, they managed to hold on to their one-goal lead until seven minutes of second-half stoppage time. The victory was the second in two games, improving their record to 3-1-1 (9 points) and keeping pace with leaders Copenhagen (12 points).
