Anyang draws 1-1 with bottom-ranked Cheonan, fails to take the lead

FC Anyang missed a golden opportunity to move to the top of the K League 2 standings.

Anyang drew 1-1 with Cheonan City in the 22nd round of the Hana OneQ K League 2 2023 at Anyang Sports Complex on the afternoon of the 18th.

The result leaves Anyang in third place with 35 points. A win would have allowed them to overtake first-place Gyeongnam (36 points), but they had to settle for a draw with last-place Cheonan (5 points), who are still winless.

Anyang used a large rotation with the exception of Park Sung-soo, Baek Dong-gyu, and Kim Hyung-jin. Park Jae-yong, Hwang Ki-wook, and Lee Chang-yong, who are all rumored to be on the verge of a move to Jeonbuk, started from the bench.

Anyang struck first. Four minutes into the second half, substitute Yago found the back of the net with a powerful left-footed mid-range shot to give Anyang the lead.

Cheonan quickly equalized. In the 10th minute of the second half, Kim Jong-min’s header deflected off the defense and into the back of the net.

In the 44th minute, Jang Baek-gyu took advantage of the goalkeeper’s fall and calmly rattled the net, but the goal was disallowed as Paulinho was found to be offside. In the end, the two teams were unable to settle the score at 1-1.

At Mokdong Sports Complex, Gimpo FC extended their winning streak with a victory over Seoul Eland. Gimpo defended well from Park Kwang-il’s fantastic free kick eight minutes into the second half to win 1-0.

Gimpo is unbeaten in four matches (2 wins, 2 draws) and jumps to fourth place (35 points). Meanwhile, Yiland is winless in four matches (two draws and two losses) and drops to ninth place (25 points).

Overall, the game was dominated by Lee Land, but the three points belonged to Gimpo. Despite recording 15 shots on goal, Lee Land was unable to break down the solid Gimpo defense. Lee Jae-ik’s crucial mid-range shot in the 42nd minute was saved by the goalkeeper, while Park Jung-in’s shot in front of goal in the 43rd minute was also deflected and easily caught by the keeper.

At the Bucheon Sports Complex, Bucheon FC and Chungbuk Cheongju played to a goalless 0-0 draw. Bucheon remained in fifth place with 34 points, while Chungbuk Cheongju jumped to eighth place (26 points) with an unbeaten run of seven matches (three wins and four draws).

While Bucheon had most of the possession, there were not many decisive moments. Instead, Chungbuk Cheongju threatened Bucheon with 12 shots and five on target.

In the end, however, no goals were scored. In the 32nd minute, Jang Hyuk-jin looked to open the scoring with a nice mid-range shot, but the goal was disallowed due to a foul on Park Jin-sung in the previous play. In the 35th minute, George’s shot was also deflected by the defense and headed into the goal, but it was saved by the goalkeeper. 스포츠토토
