Doosan defeats Lotte in nail-biter to avoid second straight loss

The Doosan Bears snapped a two-game losing streak by beating the Lotte Giants behind a pair of grand slams from Yang Yang-ji and Yang Seok-hwan.

Doosan won 13-8 against the Lotte Giants in the 2024 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League on Wednesday at Jamsil Baseball Stadium in Seoul, South Korea.

Doosan snapped a two-game losing streak and remained in fourth place with 45 wins, 2 draws and 39 losses. Lotte, which saw its five-game winning streak snapped, dropped one spot to eighth place with 35 wins, 3 losses and 41 draws.

Doosan starter Raul Alcantara was tagged for six runs on four hits (one homer) and three walks in two innings, but seven relievers pitched the remaining seven innings to preserve the win.

At the plate, Yang went 3-for-3 with two home runs, two doubles, six RBIs, four runs scored and a 100 percent on-base percentage. With his 10th and 11th home runs of the season, Yang also reached 10 home runs for the 11th consecutive season (14th all-time).

Seok-hwan Yang also went 4-for-5 with a grand slam, one home run, five RBIs and two runs scored.

It was the first time since the opening of Jamsil Stadium that two grand slams were hit in the same game.

Lotte starter Park Se-woong gave his team some early run support, but was unable to secure the win, allowing six runs on eight hits (one homer) and two walks in four innings.

Lotte took an early lead in the game. After a solo shot in the first inning, Jeon Jun-woo hit a two-out, three-run double in the top of the second to put Alcantara away. Noh Jin-hyuk added an RBI double in the top of the second to extend the lead to 6-0.

Doosan cut the deficit to 3-6 in the bottom of the second inning on an RBI single by Kang Seung-ho and a two-run homer by Yang Ji-hyun in the third inning before Yang Seok-hwan hit a grand slam in the fifth inning.

With the bases loaded in the fifth after back-to-back singles by Heo Kyung-min and Henry Ramos and a walk to Yang Ji, Yang took a 145-kilometer-per-hour fastball from Lotte reliever Kim Sang-soo over the left field fence for a 115-meter grand slam. It was Yang’s 19th home run of the season.

Yang hit the game-winning RBI single in the seventh inning to tie the game at 7-7. With the bases loaded after Ramos singled, Yang walked, and Kim 먹튀사이트 Jae-hwan was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Yang lined a single to right field against reliever Koo Seung-min to make it 8-7. Kang Seung-ho followed with a wild pitch to bring home Koo Seung-min from third base to extend Doosan’s lead to 9-7.

Down 9-8 in the top of the eighth inning, Doosan secured the win with a walk-off single by Yang Ji-hyeon. With the bases loaded and nobody out, Yang took a two-pitch fastball from Lotte bullpen Park Jin and launched it over the right field wall. It was Yang’s 11th home run of the season.

Kim Taek-yeon, who entered the game with the bases loaded in the top of the eighth, took the mound in the ninth and gave up a leadoff double to Oh Sun-jin, but got Hwang Sung-bin to ground out to the pitcher, Yoon Dong-hee to strike out, and Jeon Jun-woo to fly out to center field to end the game. Kim earned his seventh save of the season (2-2).

Choi Ji-kang, Doosan’s seventh pitcher, allowed one run in 1⅔ innings, but was fortunate to get the save to improve to 3-1 (1-1).
