Korean Baduk is attempting to win the Chunran Cup,
a world tournament hosted by China, for the fourth time in a row.
The 15th Chunran Cup World Baduk Championship will hold the opening ceremony in Xiamen, Fujian Province, China,
on the 18th, and the round of 24 will begin on the 19th.

In the 12th competition, 9-dan Park Jeong-hwan, and in the 13th, 9-dan Shin Shin-seo reached the top,
and in the final of the 14th competition that ended last year,
9-dan Byun Sang-il defeated China’s 9-dan Li Xuanhao 2-0 and won the championship.
Korea, which is aiming for its fourth consecutive championship, will have six elite members,
Shin Jin-seo, Park Jung-hwan, Byun Sang-il, Shin Min-jun, Kim Myung-hoon, and Park Geon-ho, 9th dan, participating in this tournament.
‘Defending champion’ Byun Sang-il decided to advance to the finals early on as the first seed,
while Shin Jin-seo and Park Jung-hwan received seeds to win the international competition.
Shin Min-jun and Park Geon-ho received national team standing seedings,
and Kim Myung-hoon won the last ticket in the domestic selection held in February.
Chunran Cup
Host country China, which is aiming to regain hegemony, has 10 participants, including runner-up Li Xuanhao of the previous competition, as well as 9th dan Gu Zihao, Ke Jie, Ding Hao, Yang Dingxin, Tang Yifei, Li Weiqing, Mi Yuting, Xue Erhao, and Yang Kaiwen.
From Japan, five people took up the challenge: Ryo Ichikiri, Doramaru Shibano, Yuta Iiyama, Xu Jiayuan 9th dan and Yuichi Hirose 7th dan.
Taiwan’s 9th dan Xu Haohong, America’s representative Alexander Chi Chodan, and European representative Yan Simara each secured tickets to participate.
The Chunran Cup will play the round of 24 on the 19th and the round of 16 on the 21st.
The quarterfinals and semifinals will be held in December, and the long-awaited finals will be held early next year.
In the 14 Spring Festival Cups held so far, Korea won the most eight times, followed by China five times and Japan once.
The prize money for the Chunran Cup winner is $150,000 (about 199 million won), and the runner-up prize is $50,000 (about 66.5 million won).
