North Korea refused to participate in the next competition, the 2019 Gwangju Games, and was unable to participate in the 2022 Budapest Games due to disciplinary action by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for not participating in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The North Korean athletes, who were unable to participate in international competitions until 2022 due to IOC disciplinary action, did not even participate in the 2023 Fukuoka Games when the disciplinary action was lifted.
