Liverpool release candidate wants Barça…’perfect replacement for Gabby’

Barcelona’s search for a replacement for Gabi (19) is picking up speed.

“Barcelona have put Thiago Alcantara (Liverpool, 32) on their shortlist to fill the void left by Gabi’s injury,” Spanish media outlet Sport reported on Feb. 22.

“Gabi has undergone a medical examination and has suffered a complete rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, as well as an injury to the external meniscus,” Barcelona announced on the club’s official website on Tuesday.

Surgery is inevitable. It’s unclear exactly how long it will take him to return. It is believed that he will not be able to return this season.

Barcelona will need to find a replacement for Gabi Gabi is considered a key midfielder for Barcelona. He has made 15 appearances this season. Finding someone to fill his void is a must.

Thiago has emerged as the leading candidate. According to the report, financially struggling Barcelona see Thiago as the perfect replacement for Gabi, whose contract expires in June 2024.

His familiarity with Barcelona is also a plus. Thiago came up through the Barcelona youth ranks and played for the first team until 2013.

His current situation at Liverpool is not good. Injuries have caught up with him. He”s had too many absences, despite his great performances. He”s been plagued by injuries, big and small, and hasn”t been able to maintain a consistent level of performance.

This season, the situation is even worse. He hasn’t played a single game due to injury. Not only is the timetable for his return unclear, but the exact extent of the injury is unknown.

Nevertheless, Barcelona’s interest is serious. “Barcelona believe that Thiago is suffering from a hip injury but will be able to return after the January transfer window next year,” according to Sport.

It’s not out of the question that a deal could happen. Liverpool are ready to say goodbye to Thiago. Rather than letting Thiago leave on a free in 2024, the Reds are reportedly hoping to cash in on his services in next January’s transfer window.
