‘Hangzhou triple’ cyclist Kim Jung-bin wins second Paralympic title…

Visually impaired cyclist Kim Jung-bin, a triple medallist at the Hangzhou 2022 Para Asian Games, won two medals at the 43rd National Para Sports Games.

Kim won the 22.4-kilometre tandem B (visually impaired) men’s individual road race at the Yeongam International Automobile Stadium in Yeongam-gun, Jeollanam-do, on Friday with a time of 29 minutes, 19.014 seconds, along with able-bodied pilot Yoon Jung-heon.

It was the second gold medal for Kim, who won the track individual pursuit 4-kilometre tandem B race on the previous three days in a Korean record time of 4:35.861.

He won three medals on day four, including a bronze in the 200m track sprint tandem B.

“I am most pleased to have achieved a Korean record in the 4 kilometre race,” Kim said, adding, “I hope to compete with world-class athletes at the World Cup in May next year.”

Taekwondo standout Joo Jeong-hoon defeated Lee Kwon-hoon 29-16 in the men’s 80kg K44 final at Jangheung Gymnasium in Jeonnam.

Kang Sun-hee defeated Shin Min-jung 5-1 to win gold in the women’s individual boccia BC3 event at Haenam Woosul Gymnasium.

Gong Hyuk-joon, the silver medallist at the Cascais do Sul 2022 Summer Games, won the men’s 100 metres DB final in 11.06 seconds at the Mokpo Sports Complex in Jeonnam.

He won gold in the men’s 400m DB on the 4th in a Korean record of 48.86. On 7 July, he will attempt to win a third title in the men’s 200m DB.
