The LG Twins of the Korean Baseball Organization (KBO) have won three straight games thanks to a lucky rain delay.
LG defeated the SSG Landers 8-3 in the first game of a doubleheader at the Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League 2023 at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul on Sunday.
The game was suspended for 70 minutes from 3:47 p.m. due to sudden rain.
The heavens were not kind to SSG, who led 3-2 until the end of the sixth inning, and it was precious time for LG to stem the tide of the loss.
Furthermore, SSG had to pull starter Kim Kwang-hyun, who had a cold shoulder due to the lengthy stoppage, and bring up Noh Kyung-eun.
Kim Kwang-hyun threw 79 pitches in five innings, allowing four hits, one walk, six strikeouts and two runs (one earned).
LG turned the game around as soon as play resumed.
Shin Min-jae, who walked before the suspension, promptly stole second base and reached third when SSG catcher Cho Hyung-woo’s throw to second fell behind.
The next batter, Kim Hyun-soo, singled to right field to bring home Shin Min-jae and tie the game at 3-3, and Moon Bo-kyung followed with a double to left field.
After losing the lead, SSG added to the injury woes.
When Park Dong-won singled to right-center field, second baseman Kim Sung-hyun and center fielder Choi Ji-hoon collided while trying to make the catch. The ball hit the ground, allowing Moon to score from first base.
The two players hit each other in the face and were unable to get off the field for a while due to severe pain. Choi Ji-hoon was eventually replaced by Ha Jae-hoon.
LG had the last laugh in the top of the eighth inning.
After SSG put runners on first and second with a single by Han Yoo-seom, a walk by Choi Joo-hwan, and a sacrifice bunt by Kim Sung-hyun, LG sent out closer Go Woo-seok.
Go struck out pinch-hitter Kim Kang-min with nine fastballs over 150 kilometers per hour and got Choo Shin-soo to fly out to center field.
With the game in hand, LG drove in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth with three consecutive RBI singles by Park Dong-won, Moon Sung-joo and Park Hae-min.
Go Woo-seok, who also pitched the ninth inning, secured the win with a perfect 1⅔ innings without allowing a run. 안전놀이터
