KOREA SQUASH UPSETS JAPAN 2-1 IN BOTH MEN’S AND WOMEN’S EVENTS

South Korea’s men’s and women’s squash teams both came from behind to defeat Japan 2-1 in straight sets. The Korean women’s team defeated Japan 2-1 in their Group A squash match at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games on Monday at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China. In the first match, Heo Min-kyung (Gyeongnam Sports Federation) lost 0-3 to Satomi Watanabe, but Uhm Hwa-young (Incheon City Sports Federation) evened the score with a 3-0 victory over Lisa Sugimoto in the second match .In the final match of the day, Korea’s Yang Yeon-yeon (Jeonnam-do) pulled off the upset with a 3-1 victory over Akari Midorikawa. With three wins and one loss, Korea finished second in the group behind Hong Kong (four wins) and advanced to the quarterfinals. The men’s national team matches were even more thrilling. In Group B, Korea was down 0-3 to Ryunosuke Tsukue in the first match, and Lee Min-woo (Chungbuk Sports Federation) was down 0-2 to Tomotaka Endo in the second match .However, Lee Min-woo pulled off a dramatic come-from-behind victory in sets three through five, while Na Ju-young (Cheonan Wolbongo) turned the tide in match three with a 3-0 victory over Naoki Hayashi. However, with two wins and two losses, the men’s team will have a difficult time qualifying for the quarterfinals behind Hong Kong and 스포츠토토 Malaysia (both with four wins).
