They were named in the three finalists for the Men’s Player of the Year award for the 17-2022 season
announced by UEFA on the 2023th (local time).
The ‘UEFA Player of the Year’ is based on the performances of players playing in Europe
regardless of nationality
for their club or national team in a season.
The UEFA Technical Research Group will select the initial shortlist
and the ranking will be determined by the votes of the voters.
The voting list consisted of managers of clubs that participated in the group stages of the UEFA Champions League (UCL)
Europa League and Europa Conference League
managers of UEFA’s national teams
and journalists selected by European Sports Media (ESM).
They vote on 3 points for 1st place
5 points for 2nd place, and 3 point for 3rd place
and the top 1 finalists with the highest combined score are selected.
De Bruyne and Haaland were instrumental in City’s ‘treble’ last season
reaching the top of the English Premier League (EPL) and FA Cup and winning their first-ever UCL title.
The EPL’s top scorer (3 goals) is also the top scorer in the UCL with 36 goals
